Vessel, Saddles and Pipe Work Protection
Advanced Insulation’s ContraFlame® JF120 Vessel, Saddles and Pipe Work Protection coating provides integrated insulation and passive fire protection (PFP) capable of withstanding harsh offshore environmental conditions whilst providing high integrity corrosion protection.
The system is based on a unique syntactic phenolic foam applied in a wet form which moulds directly around the equipment, providing a joint-less application and excellent resistance to jet fire. The system is widely used on vessels, separators, saddles, piping, and other process equipment. The system lends itself to projects where there is a requirement to reduce repetitive and costly maintenance activity.
The outer GRP D2004 Laminate system provides a protective mechanical boundary that can withstand the rigours of offshore weather conditions also providing long term corrosion protection which contribute to an increase in the life of the asset and a significant reduction in ongoing maintenance costs.
The system is unique in so far that it provides a lightweight PFP, insulation, corrosion protection, UV protection and impact protection in one system. Unlike other PFP solutions the ContraFlame® system has been designed to be installed as one complete joint-less system designed to prevent corrosion of the items it is protecting and only fully bonded systems are capable of doing this. The ContraFlame® system can resist temperature ranges from + 185º to -196ºC and cycling experienced.
Construction:
- The C50 syntactic phenolic foam is bonded using a phenolic tie-coat to the anti-corrosion system applied over vessels, separators, saddles, piping, and other process equipment
- Suitable for hot and cold vessels
- Suitable for slug catchers & Separators
- Suitable for flare stacks
- Suitable for process pipework and equipment
Features:
- A combined lightweight system providing Passive Fire Protection, Insulation and Corrosion Prevention
- Based on phenolic syntactic foam and phenolic glass reinforced laminate. It is totally passive in the fire situation and does not undergo any chemical change in the course of the fire.
- The system is designed for “life of field” operation, which in normal operating conditions will be in excess of 30 years.
- The system has been tested for thermal shock testing and met these criteria by shock cooling an externally coated vessel from +110 to –170ºC in 10 minutes. No deterioration of the bond to the metal base or reduction in adhesion was found nor any spalling or cracking of the material.
- The system carries jet fire certifications specifically covered by Lloyds, DNV and ABS and has been tested to ISO 22899-1 as well as UL1709 for 3 hours hydrocarbon fire protection.
- Maximum and minimum operating temperature of the asset can be from + 185º to -196ºC
- The system is suitable in freezing rain, UV, Flare Radiation (5kW/m2 with a presumed temperature of +150ºC), de-icing steam and total submersion in seawater.
- The system has been blast tested up to 4.2 bar
- The C50 is closed cell structure
- The system has been tested for smoke generation to NES711 with a rating of 8.71 & Toxicity Index NES713 of 1.41
- The system is suitable for the splash and tidal zones and down to -5 metres below LAT
- The system enables the application to the equipment prior to delivery to site, without the usual concerns (crushing and damage) associated with more traditional forms of PFP/Thermal Insulation. Also the material does not require any form of heat/UV treatment or oven curing process which makes field joint applications on site onshore or offshore very easy
